While at sea, the captain’s call came across at 4am on Saturday morning. Danny heard it and roused the rest of us. Beautiful! So worth braving the cold and interrupting our sleep.

During the morning, we went to the talk about the lights by Ian Ridpath. He was very informative and a great speaker. He even shared his website for future reference.

The rest of the day was doing things on the ship. Madonna, Danny, Wayne and I had a game of shuffle board (made up our own rules), and then a game of table tennis.

We all changed it up for lunch and had hamburgers or hot dogs at the Pavilion. This was followed by a nap.
In the afternoon, we went out on the back deck and enjoyed the crisp Norwegian air… and a few beverages. Donna enjoyed a hot stone massage.

A number of guests were setting up for the night in the hope of another Northern Light viewing. They weren’t as lucky as us with the balcony views.
We also decided to stay up late in the hope of seeing the Northern Lights again.
5:30 – 7:15 Dinner,
8pm – Worbey & Farrell – a piano duo who were brilliant
9pm Gridlocked gameshow – we actually didn’t too badly at this but couldn’t compete with the team beside us that used their phones
10:15pm Dance show. Boys were reluctant participants. Both Wayne and Danny left for a little bit. Mark kept looking at his watch. When he asked Donna how long it was, she told him two hours. He then left the auditorium. It was, in fact, just 45 minutes and we joined him in the corridor. Longest minutes of the boys’ life.
To recover, the three boys stayed for another drink to watch Wayne’s favourite duo, Mary and Flav at 11pm. Wayne drew Mary’s eye by promptly falling backwards on his chair. He was worried he was going to be red-carded but luckily escaped punishment.
Sadly for all those who missed the lights the night before, they were very dim and sparse. We too, had been hoping for a second sighting. Alas, staying up late didn’t result in a successful viewing. We’ll try tomorrow night when we do our Tromso tour!
