London

Arrival on the Saturday

Last time we were here, Big Ben was still being renovated.

Caught the train from Paris to London and what an amazing service. Comfortable, great staff, roomy, and a provided lunch. I stayed awake until we hit the tunnels and woke as we were coming into London.

Donna in the naughty corner as we were waiting to board the train.
Wayne wasn’t impressed with his eggplant roll. The other choice was trout!

We are staying near Gloucester Road (very upmarket area) and our rooms are bigger, thank goodness. We headed to a local pub for the afternoon. Being a Saturday afternoon, the first two were ‘heaving’. We found a third and settled in.

Like an ice cream

We had dinner and took advantage of an early night.

Sunday

Navigated the tube to enjoy a very fancy Sunday roast at the Duck and Waffle restaurant. It was 40 floors up with spectacular views of London.

Drink prices were pricey – even the soft drink!
Open kitchen behind us – at times, this was more interesting than the spectacular views.
Boris, our waiter was a cad. On giving Wayne a packet of wipes, “Don’t worry. It’s not my phone number.”
Corn ribs
Needed those wipes!
Lobster roll (Wayne looking at Boris).
Pork belly roast
Dry aged sirloin roast
Mushroom and Camembert Wellington roast
Sticky toffee or baked cheesecake for dessert!
Wayne forgot his ‘peaky blinders’ cap. Madonna and I convinced the doorman to pretend he had ‘acquired’ it.

We needed to walk off lunch so we headed to the London Eye. Being the weekend, a number of lines on the Underground were closed. Luckily, we travel with railway men and they sorted us out.

Locals – seat on the train!

Our train boys navigated the maze and we made it to the Eye.

We then walked over the bridge and to Westminster.

We then headed back to the hotel. Madonna and Danny went out for a romantic evening walk through Kensington while the rest of us retired for the evening.

Is that you, Danny?
