Travelling through the Rhine Gorge to Koblenz

Donna and Mark went for an early morning stroll in Koblenz.

Wayne and I went about 45 minutes before the shop was leaving. We sure walked fast and every time a ship horn blew, we were a little worried.

Spent the morning on the ship. We all braved the cold conditions on the top deck. Views were amazing with lots of castle spotting.

Castles galore along this stretch of river
Luckily, the boys were so intent on the chess game they weren’t captivated by the Loreley Rock.
Loreley Rock – blame the girl for crashing the boat!
Two beautiful girls – first layers. We ended up ‘donning’ beanies, gloves, scarves and leggings.
It was cold!

We docked at Koblenz at noon, enjoyed a light lunch and joined another walking tour.

Wilhelm I, the first German emperor, for his role in the unification of Germany.
Pieces from the Berlin Wall
The tik tok sensation – Caesar’s thumb
Beautiful gardens are a requirement

Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) – very sad and very moving. Plaques commemorating victims of the Nazi Regime.
On the half hour, the Robber baron figure stuck out its tongue. He was about to have his head chopped off in 1534 for his unlawful activities. As he waited, he rolled his eyes at the audience and stuck out his tongue saying that if Koblenz remembered him Koblenz would prosper.
Some interesting characters!
Wayne loves the guided tours and ‘following the flag’- not!
The ‘peppermint lady’ – made a business of selling peppermints to men who wanted to fool their wives after a heavy drinking session.
Spitting boy –
Schängel is a statue of a little prankster that periodically spits on unsuspecting tourists

Donna returned to the boat and Mark, Wayne, Madonna and I went and did the cable car. We then enjoyed a German beer before returning to the boat.

The walls were massive.

Not here!

Faux pas of the day

Madonna enjoying some nuts, offering some to me, and just about every nut in the packet spilling all over the immaculate foyer of the ship.

Who spilt their nuts?
Guilty as charged!
