Breisach and the Black Forest

Woke up docked at Breisach, Germany. We elected to do a full day tour to the Black Forest.

Beautiful buildings in a beautiful setting

We thought it involved a literal trip into the forest where we would have lunch. It was actually driving to the central part of the Black Forest area and visiting an ‘open air’ museum.

We wandered around the traditional farmhouses, listened to a talk on the traditional dress and making butter, had a lovely lunch, and watched how cuckoo clocks are made.

Would you let Wayne loose here, Patto?
Replacing the thatched roof – without a harness – Work Place, Health and Safety?
These three look really intrigued by the talk!
Donna saw some similarity with these three!
The traditional costume for married women – black pom poms!
Cuckoo clocks
The Black Forest gateau slice was huge and delicious.
Watch how much cake you’re eating, Wayne…
…or the ‘Troubles’ will strike again!

Much time was spent trying on hats. Donna, Mark and Wayne added to their luggage.

When we returned to the ship, we went for a quick walk into Breisach.

How many men does it take to get euros out of a teller?
Wrong hand, Wayne! More conviction, Mark!

Happy hour, with conversation centered around which direction we would be travelling. Danny was correct. Heading north with France on our left and Germany on our right.

We enjoyed another beautiful dinner, this time six courses.

Faux Pas of the day

Group faux pas – didn’t have Euros to tip the guide and bus driver. Tried to give Australian dollars but she wouldn’t take it

Individual faux pas – During the debate about the direction of travel, Mark stated that we should always keep the river bank on the left! What about the other bank?

Spectacular!
